College of Agricultural, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences (ACES)

 UPDATE: August 17, 2021

Our retail shop has reopened to the public. Per NMSU and CDC guidelines, masks are required indoors, regardless of vaccination status.

We are located on the campus of New Mexico State University, in Gerald Thomas Hall, Room 265 (940 College Drive). We are open Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm. Please call (575)646-3028 for more information.

Our online shop is open and orders are being shipped daily; however, deliveries may take a little longer to reach you due to increased demands faced by UPS and the US Postal Service. We are still offering local, curbside delivery of seeds and merchandise for those who would rather purchase items this way.

Our 2021 Teaching Garden is now open!

Our garden theme this year is “Peppers A to Z” and you will be able to see about 150 different varieties of peppers. Currently the gate to the Fabian Garcia Botanical Garden is locked. Please park at 113 W. University Avenue (the Fabian Garcia Science Center) and walk east (toward the mountains), in front of the little pond and the trailer, into the garden. Garden guides are located in a mailbox attached to our sign in the garden.

We know it’s been a long year, and we sincerely thank you for your continued patronage.

Staff of the Chile Pepper Institute

The Chile Pepper Institute is the only international, non-profit organization devoted to education and research related to Capsicum, or chile peppers. Established in 1992, the Institute builds on the research of chile peppers since the famous horticulturalist Fabian Garcia (the father of the U.S. chile pepper industry) began standardizing chile pepper varieties in 1888. The Institute is located on the New Mexico State University campus, Las Cruces, NM in Gerald Thomas Hall, Room 265 (575-646-3028). In the Institute visitors will discover chile research posters, chile pepper books, art, and hundreds of high-demand and hard-to-find chile pepper seed varieties. If you are interested in downloading our Chile Pepper Institute catalog please email
